Embrace Life’s Challenges
What types of services are provided to adults?
An adult (age 18 and up) may come to individual therapy for many reasons or may not have a clear reason but seeks help and guidance. As with children and adolescents, I believe that developing the relationship is key to a good result. I believe the choice of an individual to start therapy is an act of courage and the beginning of a commitment to make positive changes. Reluctance and fear of therapy may be present if the individual has never attended therapy. I invest time in developing the therapeutic relationship so that an atmosphere of trust and confidence is built.

As part of the initial assessment, the individual will be screened to determine the identified problem and well as the type of psychotherapy(s) that may benefit him/her. Such factors as the current concern(s), history, previous experience of therapy, personal background, and the ability of the individual to cooperate in treatment will be considered. If a previous diagnosis exists, I will also use this information to determine what type of therapy may be the best fit.

How may therapy benefit an individual?
A tailored intervention plan specific to the individual client's needs can be developed. This is a unique feature of individual therapy since the focus is on the individual's needs. The client may become more aware of behavior patterns, triggers, past and present experiences which hinder growth or cause ongoing pain or distress. The client will leave feeling equipped with tools to handle life's challenges as they experience them.

Treatment approaches from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Solution Focused therapy are used so that the client feels equipped to handle stress in a manageable manner now and for a lifetime.
